Born in Melbourne and raised in the Macedon Ranges, Darren Davis first fell in love with the Barossa from afar – long before he ever called it home.
After a military university education as a Naval Officer, he swapped chilly Canberra for Queensland and enjoyed life as a dive instructor until a serious case of ‘the bends’ forced him to abandon his nautical aspirations for good.

Darren swiftly progressed through the ranks of the Brisbane hospitality industry, all the while cultivating a lifelong passion for the Barossa by assisting and promoting small Barossa producers into the market in the early 2000's. In 2008 he brought his dream of a Barossa focused wine-bar in the heart of Brisbane to life when Bar Barossa was opened. A home from home for visiting winemakers, his Friday Long Lunches became a legendary part of the Brisbane dining scene, where stories were shared and Barossa Shiraz flowed freely.

Since that time Darren continues to be at the forefront of the QLD wine industry as a presenter, retailer, restaurateur, educator, brand ambassador, wine judge – you name it, Darren is doing it, opening bottles and telling stories with his trademark flair. An MC role promoting the Barossa region across the country in 2013 saw him meet his partner in life and business, Amy White, with whom he now runs Davis & White, QLD’s first and only dedicated wine auction house and fine wine retailer.
A natural storyteller, Darren is all heart and hospitality. He founded the Barossa in Boardshorts event series and continues to stage his regular Barossa Long Lunches. Whether he’s behind a microphone or a tasting bench, he’s always championing the people and place he loves most – Barossa.
